APCOTANE™
Apcotane has been formulated to mitigate H2S with minimal dosage. It takes sour crude and makes it sweet, allowing the crude oil to be marketed as such — and treats up to 100,000+ ppm of H2S.
What is it?
Apcotane™ has an organic molecule that reacts with the hydrogen sulfide compound. The product changes the pH of the acid so that the sulfide will change phases and be encapsulated in the organic acid. Only the basic sediment and water vapor must adjust pH to neutral for the reaction to occur, enabling there to be such a small dosage. Once the sulfide reverts back to the sulfide phase, the sulfide cannot change back because of the encapsulation. The product is carbon-based, so essentially the sulfide is attaching to a carbon chain, leaving the oil intact.
Apcotane™ is stream dependent not ppm-dependent, so dosage is based on the API of the oil, NaCL concentration, paraffin and asphaltene concentration, and stream pH. The critical aspect of the treatment is the mixing energy to make sure all the molecules have contact with the solution. The product targets all organic and inorganic sulfides such as mercaptans and iron sulfide. Apcotane™ has many different applications in the oil and gas industry.

Application
- Determine API, Wax, Paraffins, Asphaltenes, TAN, Mercaptans, and other contaminating components
- Apply dosage mainly based on the API
- Change to inline or batch treatment
- Blend evenly for at least 30 minutes and residence time of up to 24 hours
- Heavy crudes will blend better at higher temperatures
- Shearing helps to disperse contaminants entrained in the paraffins and wax
- Dosing of Apcotane™ will compound if necessary for zero ppm of H2S result
